THEATER THURSDAYS

Gotta go with the TH thing. :-)

So, I thought I'd dedicate Thursdays to some sort of discussion about the theater world. Sometimes it will be a show I've seen (or want to see) and sometimes I might just talk about something I've read regarding things happening in the world of theater.

I will admit it's been about year since I made it in to NYC to see a good show. The last one I saw was Mary Poppins and OMG, I'm still so in love with that show. The sets were phenomenal as was most of the acting (was a little disappointed with the young actress who played Jane) and the illusions (like Mary Poppins pulling out a full lamp from her bag) amazed me. I still can't for the life of me figure out how they did it.

I will also admit that I cried twice during the show. I know you may think that sounds so silly. I mean, who the heck cries for Mary Poppins? But I believe it had more to do with the nostalgia of something that brings back great memories from my childhood then the show itself.

If this show ever comes to your neighborhood (heck, it's worth a nice long drive, imo), you really should go see it. It is pure entertainment mixed with great talent, wonderful dancing and music that you can't help but sing along with, and a great walk through memory lane (if you're as old as I am :-) ).

Check out this video on the show. If this doesn't pump you up, I don't know what will. It is traveling around to a lot of different cities. If you click on the link below, there is a tab on the right side with where the show will be. If the show is coming near you, PLEASE GO SEE IT!!! I just watched the video and I swear I started crying again. There's just something about Mary Poppins!

  1. What a fun meme! I rarely get to see shows. I went to Les Mis a couple years ago with my sister and that was fun, but haven't been back since. I really need to get downtown more. this sounds like a great show. And as for crying - I always choke up when i watch The Incredibles. Yes, you heard me right. The Incredibles - the scene where the mom jumps out of the plane and saves her two kids. It gets to me every time. I would probably cry at MP too. :)

  2. Gosh, I wish people would get to more theater. It's just such an amazing experience, especially the big time productions like Broadway type shows. I saw Les Mis many years ago and I know so many people love it, but it was a bit dark for me. I will save my absolute favorite all time Broadway production for next weeks discussion, but it is one I saw 3 times!

As for the crying, yeah...I'm a big time crier. I still can't get through The LIttle Mermaid without crying and The Lion King...Oh dear. I grab a box of tissues when I sit down to watch that one (Must be the daddy thing since I loves me daddy so much!)

    Thanks for commenting, Angie!

never get to the theatre (well, hardly ever) which is weird b/c i am into it - just live 6 hours away from any capital cities where the good shows tour.

les mis is a fave of mine :) i taught it to year 9 students (14 & 15 year olds) for French and they loved it.

  4. Yeah, six hours is far. That will have to be an over night trip when you go with a girlfriend or dh and make it a dinner, show and over night in a nice luxurious hotel with a jacuzzi bathtub, and a nice glass of merlot with some cheese and grapes...oops. Sorry, slipped away into dreamland there for a moment :-)
